A grant from the Wingate foundation enabled me to complete research for my PhD on the artist Henri Rousseau. The material I found led to an article in Apollo: my first published writing. Since then, as a documentary researcher for Tate Modern, I played a significant role in the exhibition ‘Henri Rousseau: Jungles in Paris’ (I produced a major part of the catalogue essays and wrote a beginner’s guide to the painter entitled 'Interpreting Rousseau').
I have lectured on the subject in venues including The National Gallery of Art in Washington and the University of Cambridge. My career in museums has developed with Assistant Curator roles at both the Courtauld Institute of Art and The National Gallery. I am grateful for the support I received from the Wingate Foundation and would like to take the opportunity to renew my thanks.
