My 3-year project investigating natural theological reasoning in children from different ethnic groups in England required funding from several sources because the topic was outside the remit of any of the research councils. The Wingate Scholarship enabled me to carry out fieldwork in different faith schools without interruption and to extend its most interesting part to several schools outside of Oxford (London and the Midlands). In this way, I managed to obtain data from children attending Hindu, Muslim, and Jewish schools, in addition to the data gathered from children attending Catholic, Church of England, and Evangelical as well as non-faith schools in and around Oxford. The material obtained from some 450 children and 47 RE teachers is fascinating and I am now looking forward to analysing the data statistically and producing a monograph that is likely to be of interest to all involved in providing RE to children of primary school age.
