I was awarded a Wingate Scholarship to research a book intended for broad readership about the scientific study of the commonsense understanding that underwrites humans’ everyday interactions with our environment and each other.

Thanks to the Foundation I worked on particular aspects of this project and presented papers in London, the UK and Europe. I was invited to be an Associate Research Fellow in the School of Philosophy at Birkbeck, University of London, in September 2004 and continue to hold that affiliation.

In May 2007 I take up the post of Editor of Trends in Cognitive Sciences (www.trends.com/tics), which publishes reviews and opinions from across the field aiming to make specialised research accessible to a wider audience and across discipline boundaries. This experience will contribute both to broadening my knowledge of different aspects of cognitive competence and to increasing my understanding of how to communicate scientific research to non-experts.
