In truth, I owe a great deal to Wingate Scholarships. Your award was the one that substantially made it possible to write my 1995 PhD at Cambridge. The dissertation became a book published by Cambridge University Press in 1999, ‘The Shaping of Deduction in Greek Mathematics’ - a book widely used by scholars in the history of ancient science and other fields. I am now a full professor at Stanford University (there since 1999), and have published several other books on Greek mathematics as well as other topics.
