The research undertaken during the year 1999-2000 resulted in two articles dealing with the balsam of the gardens of Matariyya, near to Cairo. I will return to this subject in future studies. Since holding the Wingate Scholarship I have been awarded fellowships with the Warburg Institute, the British Academy, and the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture in Harvard University. In 2002 I accepted a post as Assistant Professor in Islamic Art and Architecture at the University of Victoria, Canada (tenure awarded in 2006). My current research projects include: the ceramics of the industrial district of early Islamic Raqqa (Syria); the architecture of southern Greece in the Ottoman period; and the representation of Muslim rulers in early European printed books.
