I was awarded a Wingate Scholarship in 2004 to undertake a major piece of fieldwork as part of my Ph.D. research. I was developing methodology to quantify the preservational biasing that fossil assemblages undergo in order to remove these biases and study the ecology of ancient communities with confidence. I made extensive collections of the spectacular fossil mammal assemblage from Badlands National Park, South Dakota and used this data to successfully test my methodology. I am currently applying for postdoctoral research positions to collect further data with which to build a universal model, applicable to all fossil assemblages. With a universal model it will be possible to assess ecological changes between modern and ancient communities: critical to assessing modern, human influenced biodiversity loss.

The fossil collection is held at the Sedgwick Museum, Cambridge and has been used as the basis for four M.Sci. projects and another proposed Ph.D. project.
