The financial support from the Wingate Foundation allowed me to undertake a 6 month research visit at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2006. As a Visiting Researcher I carried out experimental investigation involving quantum dots embedded in photonic cavities. Overall aim of the research being the realisation of quantum information processing.
In reflection the research visit was a positive experience and it added an unique flavour to the DPhil undertaken at Oxford. Through the research visit I was able to interact with world-class researchers, generate publication in respected journals (Nature Physics and Applied Physics Letters), and gain new research skills, otherwise not available at Oxford. Besides the research, the visit allowed me to gain a greater appreciation for the Hispanic culture.
After the DPhil I worked as a Research Engineer in the TFT-LCD industry. Currently I am at Spruson & Ferguson (Sydney, Australia), where I am training to become a Registered Australian Patent Attorney.
